Freyssinet winner of the CIHT Innovation Award for the Hammersmith project

Freyssinet won the CIHT/Ringway Innovation Award 2015 together with Costain, TfL and RPB (Ramboll & Parsons Brinckerhoff) for their entry “Hammersmith Flyover Strengthening and Refurbishment” – which has extended the life of Hammersmith Flyover through pioneering post tensioned design and construction innovation.

David Gibby, CIHT President said:

“We were impressed by not only the number of innovations and bespoke elements of this scheme that could be easily transferred to other structures, but also the engineering principles and thinking behind the design and construction ingenuity.”

“The judges felt that the concept of post-tensioning a structure from the outside, allowing the original pre-stress to become redundant, is a relatively simple economic solution and the fact that it had minimal impact on the travelling public over a relatively short period of time should be acknowledged.”
