In partnership with Danish company COWI,
Freyssinet has been involved for the first time with American NGO Bridges
to Prosperity with a footbridge project in Rwanda. .
In total, five volunteers were selected from each of the two companies
to help build the Kucyaruseke bridge in the south of Rwanda. They will
depart for two weeks in February 2018 to supervise the project, exchange
skills and provide help on the ground.
Kucyaruseke bridge
The bridge built with the help of the Freyssinet
and COWI volunteers will improve the everyday lives of the local population,
which is made up of around 3,000 people mainly living off the land.
Locals currently have to cross the river using tree trunks to go to the
market in Huye to sell their harvest. The tree trunks are dangerous enough
in dry weather, but can't be crossed when it rains, meaning that people
are forced to take a detour of almost six kilometres, adding two hours
to their normal journey time.
The budget for the Kucyaruseke bridge project is entirely funded by donations,
the
fundraising campaign has thus been set up online
in order to raise funds.
