Larivot Bridge: a makeover for the bridge over the Cayenne River

Lying along the main road connecting Cayenne to Kourou, the 1,260-metre Larivot Bridge provides the primary link to the north of French Guiana.
Following extensive corrosion caused by the salinity of the Cayenne River, the bridge underwent major repairs and renovation work. The Freyssinet teams in charge of the project initially focused on protecting the prestressed beams by setting up a cathodic protection system. Subsequently, Freyssinet replaced the bearings, jacked up part of the deck to its original level and changed the expansion joints. Most of the operations were performed from the river to prevent any disruption to road traffic. The bridge was once again fully operational as of October 2014.
